A Variety of Satellite TV Services
The number of homes with satellite
TV service has grown by quite a bit over the past couple
of years. Recent customer satisfaction ratings have shown that satellite
tv services have become more popular than cable and that of the satellite
TV services, Dish Network comes out on top for overall customer approval.
The market share for cable television has eroded every year at a steady
pace over the last ten years. Currently, nearly 30% of homes in the
United States subscribe to satellite TV services.
Consumers have a choice when it comes
to satellite TV services. In the early 1990's there were fewer choices.
This was the era of the big dish. Primestar was basically the only
game in town. Then along came Directv® and a whole new era of
satellite TV services was ushered in. America made the switch to direct
broadcast (DBS) all digital satellite TV services by way of a small
(18 inch) dish that could be inconspicuously placed on the roof of
a home or business. The era of the mini-dish was introduced with much
fanfare and welcome arms.
The era of the mini dish exploded
with the introduction of a variety of satellite TV services. These
include Glorystar, Sky Angel, GlobeCast World TV, Home2US, AlphaStar,
PrimeStar and Voom. Some of these satellite TV services are now defunct
and the remainder only manage to hide in the shadows of the main two
providers of digital satellite TV programming, Dish Network and Directv®.
Modern Day Satellite TV Services
Dish Network and Directv® continue
to flourish in the era of technological revolution and evolution by
continually introducing new advances in technology and usability.
The latest additions to their arsenals are DVR and HDTV technologies.
In combination with the all-digital signals, these two modern day
technologies allow subscribers to view their television programming
in a whole new way. Today's motto is "TV when you want it and
how you want it, at an affordable price".
Dish Network and Directv® also
offer pay-per-view services like never before. You can choose between
sporting events, recently released hit movies and other types of events
by using your interactive remote control in order to make selections
on a pay-per-view basis. By electronically agreeing to pay for the
show, you gain the ability to download the programs of your choice
instantaneously.
A Variety of Satellite TV Equipment
Dish Network and Directv both offer
free equipment and free standard professional installation for up
to four rooms in your home. It should be noted that this offer is
only valid if you are a new subscriber. The standard offer will get
you free standard satellite TV receivers but you can opt for the fancier
versions if you so desire. There are DVR recorders that can be used
to pause, rewind and watch one channel while viewing another and there
are HDTV receivers which will allow you to be able to receive the
HDTV signals that are available for select channels.
The satellite TV providers also offer
a variety of dishes. The free offers will get you the standard dish
setup but those who would like more options can choose an advanced
dish setup that can allow for more programming choices and some dishes
will even allow you to be able to use the internet.
As opposed to cable television, satellite
TV services allow you to make many choices. You now have the freedom
to choose your television programming on your own terms. One of the
best things about most of today's satellite TV services is that they
are actually more affordable than cable. It might be worth your effort
to take the time to get to know the modern day satellite TV services
a little better. There are many options available and satellite TV
is more affordable than ever.
