Satellite TV Receiver Tips
(NOTE: This is
another one of our ongoing articles. For the complete current list,
please see the satellite tv article directory
below.)
These are just some
basic tips and suggestions for satellite TV system owners. As with
most things, a little common sense can go along way in keeping you
safe and in keeping your satellite TV system running well.
1) Don't let dust build
up on your satellite TV receiver. Treat your receiver just like you
would treat your home computer. It is a sensitive piece of electronic
equipment. Try to dust and clean it once per month.
2) Consider the location
of your receiver. Would it be possible to move it to a safer location?
You don't want your receiver to get bumped and you don't want anything
to accidentally get spilled on it.
3) Use preventative
measures in order to avoid damage to your receiver from surges of
electricity. Buy a good surge protector. It will pay for itself many
times over if it saves your system.
4) Try fixing it yourself
before you call for tech support. If your system is acting weird then
try resetting it. All you have to do is turn it off and unplug it.
Wait about 5 minutes and then plug it back in and turn it on. If it's
still not working right then you may need some tech support.
5) Place your receiver
so that it is well ventilated. Most receivers have small fans inside
them that help to keep the unit cool enough so that the components
don't fried. You need to leave some space for the vents so that the
ventilation system can work properly.
6) Check to make sure
that your satellite TV system is properly grounded. If your system
was professionally installed then this was probably taken care of
during the installation process but check it anyway.
7) Beware of extreme
temperatures. If your satellite TV system is subjected to temperatures
that are too hot or too cold then damage could be done.
8) Make sure you have
all of your ducks in a row before you call customer service. It will
save a lot of time if you have the serial number of your receiver,
your customer account number and other pieces of information handy
when you call for technical support.
9) Hang on to your
manual. Your owners manual may come in handy when you least expect
it to. You might want to right down some specific information about
your satellite TV system on the inside cover or on the back of your
owners manual.
