Satellite Dish Repair
If you happen to live in an area such
as the Gulf Coast, Florida, the east coast or the Rocky Mountains
then you might find yourself in need of satellite dish repair services
and information.
Thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail, hurricanes
and just high winds can can damage your dish or at least put it out
of alignment. (NOTE: If you are experiencing hurricanes or tornadoes
then you probably have a lot more to worry about than your TV reception.)
An object, such as a rock, basketball or shoe might accidentally hit
the dish and knock it out of whack as well. When your satellite dish
is damaged or out of alignment you'll end up getting a poor signal
and in more severe cases, no signal at all.
You won't be able to ask your neighbor
if his TV reception has gone bad because unlike cable television,
satellite TV problems only affect the subscriber who is having the
problems. This is assuming that it is a dish problem rather than a
problem with the network. Since we are on the topic of satellite dish
repair, we will stick with the theory that the problem is with the
dish.
There are a few things that you can
do in order to determine the cause of the problems that you are having.
If you still can't determine the cause of your problems then you should
probably contact a satellite dish repair service in order to have
someone come out and take a look. If you happen to subscribe to Dish
Network or Directv®
then you can simply call their customer service number.
If you don't subscribe to one of the
satellite networks listed above then the first thing that you need
to do is try to find out if the receiver is getting a signal. If the
receiver is not getting a signal then you should have a look at the
dish to see if it is out of alignment. If it is then you can read
your user manual and follow the instructions for dish realignment,
assuming that it is safe to do so. If the dish is difficult to reach
or if there is any type of danger involved then you should seek help
from a qualified satellite dish repair specialist.
If alignment doesn't appear to be
the problem then you should survey the are around the dish. Perhaps
a tree limb has fallen in the path of the satellite signal or a moveable
object has been placed in the trajectory of where the dish faces.
If this is your problem then just go ahead and move the object and
see if your signal clears up. If there are any fallen branches then
you might want to call a tree removal service. If
you live in the mountains then snow may accumulate on your dish. This
may interfere with your reception. Remove the snow and see what happens.
You should also check to see if all
of the cables are secure. Check all the connections around the dish
and around your receiver to make sure that they are all secure and
functioning properly. If your problem turns out to only be a disconnected
cable then you should consider yourself lucky.
Sometimes the receiver itself is the
problem. You can reset the receiver by unplugging it and then waiting
a minute or so before plugging it back in. In many cases you can also
reset the receiver by taking out the programming card and then reinserting
it.
Most of the time you won't need the
services of a satellite dish repair technician. Most of the time it
will be something simple or at least something that is covered by
your satellite TV provider. If you do end up needing satellite dish
repair then you can look in the yellow pages of your phone book. Call
a few different places so that you can get estimates. If possible,
get a referral from a friend or relative.
